Q: Were you able to accomplish all your objectives, for the Cebu X Promotions Committee?
A: The important thing was that we were able to meet exhibitors from other countries who are potential buyers of Philippine furniture that's made in Cebu. Most of the prospects know Cebu and like what we have to offer, but have not been updated with the current changes in product mix, capabilities and material applications. I wouldn't say I've accomplished all my objectives, but I believe I've made major steps in being able to redirect their focus and consider visiting Cebu X in 2008, renew sourcing relationships, see new products.
Q: As a businessman, has it given you insights on how Cebu furniture exporters can further enhance their presence in the Dubai market?

The Dubai Study Mission
The UAE's potential as the source of a new client base has been a priority to the Cebu X show and the CFIF membership. Developing trade relations with the Middle East and building strong ties with Dubai, the crown jewel of the UAE's thrust to attract ultrarich tourists, has been one of our paramount objectives.
This year Cebu X focuses on the growth of its contract industry and supplying exclusive products for luxury hotels. We seek to establish ourselves as manufacturers of goods for elite design clients with unique demands. We joined The Hotel Show 2007 in Dubai as it is the premiere forum for the emirate's hospitality industry.
The main forum in the July show was the Seven Star Conference.
One of the speakers was in fact our very own Kenneth Cobonpue–a Filipino and Cebuano–a design celebrity known all over the world. Cobonpue, has been dubbed "rattan's first virtuoso"...(read more)
