CFIF Launches 20th Cebu X

The Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation (CFIF) is gearing up for the Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition (Cebu X) in 2009. The Foundation will formally launch the 20th run of the Cebu X on July 10, 2008, 3:00 PM at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The Cebu X is a celebrated event that gathers the Philippine’s world-class furniture and furnishings manufacturers showcasing their creations to visitors from around the globe.

Each year, CFIF strives to surpass the previous year’s success. For the 2009 show, the organizers are cooking up value-added services for both exhibitors and buyers. Programs are being lined-up to ensure that Cebu X maintains its position as the “Design Destination of Asia”. These plans will be unveiled during the launch.

Visitors from around the globe flock to Cebu X

The Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition (CEBU X) 2008 ended on a high note as visitors from all over the world flocked to Asia's leading design destination.

Buyer turnout exceeded expectations with over 1500 warm bodies coming in from 78 countries. Exhibitors remarked that there were more "serious buyers" this year, as sales jumped to USD 15.4 million (from last year's 15 million) for the 4-day event. Revenue per exhibitor increased an average of USD 181,176.00 per exhibitor versus last year's USD 150,000.00.

This year's show confirmed that the United States is still the major market for Cebu X (about 75% of our exports still go to the US), however the fair has also tapped new markets and has outlined a strategy to strengthen its presence in these markets. Among the major emerging markets identified are the Middle East, Europe and Russia.

A Young Trend at the Mugna Awards

The Cebu X 2008 Mugna Awards showed an inclination towards new talent, as up-and-coming names in furniture design were cited alongside established international design mavens.

Winners included Maria Luz Mikaela Cano for Best Student Design. Her witty creation Pandora made for Kirsten International stood out among the talented crop of interns under Student Internship Project (SIP) of the Design and Product Development Program (DPDP). For home accessory design, the whimsical and playful Cuckoo Lamp by Kai Igot stole the show. Created for Interior Crafts of the Islands, the lamp echoed the designer's own creativity mixed with the signature clean lines and organic touch of mentor Kenneth Cobonpue.
