Corito Escario Yu (COBE International Corporation)
Art is something I cannot dissociate from myself, no matter how much
I want to focus on business," began Corito Escario Yu in our
interview. "My art follows me like a shadow. It crops up, unnoticed,
in whatever endeavor I am involved in, be it hotel management,
setting up a business venture or marketing granite stones to various
contractors." Corito obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts major in
Interior Design degree from the University of San Francisco and the
Academy of Fine Arts in San Francisco, U.S.A. In I993, she took an
Advanced Management and Manufacturing course at the Asian Institute
of Management (AIM) in Manila.
In I990, she established COBE International Corporation where she
sits as designer and Vice President for Marketing. Last year (I996),
she took on the added challenge of being Branch Manager of Escario
Granite Stone Industries, Inc.
For COBE, Corito designs the whole range of furniture and
furnishings, like her world recognized sunburst bed. Her lines are
along the neo-classic, the avant garde or contemporary. Her products
are always stamped with meticulous handiwork, especially her
excellent hand paintings on screen panels, wine and jewelry boxes.
She also does exquisite English traditional antique reproductions in
metal.
